By DONNA BALANCIA — Internationally known surfing champions C.J. and Damien Hobgood and their business manager, Mitch Varnes, are getting into the retail end of the sport, buying a surf shop on State Road A1A, just north of Indialantic.

The Satellite Beach surfing twins and Varnes are taking over ownership of The Groove Tube, which sold surfing gear and recorded music.

They will change the store’s name to The ‘Goods Surf & Skate — a reference to the surfers’ last name.

“It’s a real surf shop, owned by real surfers,” Varnes said. “The guys have a great reputation, and they certainly know a thing or two about surfing.”

This is the first retail business venture by the Hobgoods. Financial terms were not disclosed. The purchase of the surf shop is something the Hobgood brothers said they wanted to do for a long time.
